The truth of Hollywood Racism, Sexism, Abuse revealed in a Bombshell Interview by Thandie Newton

The English actress Thandie Newton did not hold anything back in a new Vulture interview and covered her three decades of work as an actress, revealing the hard truth of Hollywood and its racism, sexism, and abuse while being brutally honest about her handful projects that define her career. Thandie Newton shared her experiences and detailed past trauma in the industry as she opened up about the reality of Hollywood.

The actress of Westworld, Thandie Newton said in the interview that, “If you’re a young black girl and you get raped, in the film business, no one’s going to fucking care.”

Thandie Newton made her debut film in 1991 with the film Flirting, spoke about her decision to turn down a part in the remake of Charlie’s Angles in an very incredibly frank interview with Vulture. Newton said in the interview that she encountered “people that were doing the same [abusive] sh*t, and so I would challenge them or want to get out of it, or not want to work with people.”

Newton claimed that one of such people was the former co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Amy Pascal.

As Thandie Newton recalled her meeting with Amy Pascal, she revealed that, “I had a meeting with her, and she said, ‘Look, I don’t mean to be politically incorrect, but the character as written and you playing the role, I just feel like we’ve got to make sure that it’s believable.’ I was like, ‘what do you mean? What changes would you have to make?’ she’s like, ‘well, you know, the character , as written , he’s been to university and is educated.’ I’m like, ‘I’ve been to university. I went to Cambridge.’ She went, ‘yeah, but you’re different.’ She’s like, ‘Maybe there could be a scene where you are in a bar and she gets up on a table and starts shaking her booty.’ Everything she said, I was like, ‘Nah, I wouldn’t do that.’ She’s like, ‘yeah but you’re different ’”.

That was Amy Pascal as Newton claims.

But when Vulture approached Amy Pascal about Thandie Newton’s claims, Pascal just denied all the claims and said that she was horrified to hear the characterization of their meeting. Amy Pascal straight forwardly claimed that she consider Thandie Newton as a friend and was happy to work with her.

As the interview continued Newton being brutally honest also revealed her conversation with McG the director of Charlie’s Angles.

Thandie Newton recalled the conversation with McG and shared that, “The director said to me, ‘I can’t wait for this. The first shot is going to be….. you’re going to think it’s like yellow lines down a road, and you pyull back and you realized it’s the stitching, because the denim is so tight on you’re a**, it’s going to look like tarma.’ I was like, ‘oh, I don’t think we’re going to go down this road together. ’” which directly and indirectly in both ways influenced her decision of not doing the film.

While the interview was at its peak Thandie Newton revealed that how scared she was of Tom Cruise, her co-star in the action sequel “Mission Impossible 2”, where she was casted as his love interest. She said that, “I was so scared of Tom. He was very dominant individual,” to which she added, “He tries super hard to be a nice person. But the pressure. He takes on a lot. And I think he has this sense that only he can do everything as best as it can be done.”

As Thandie Newton was recalling her experience with Tom Cruise she revealed that the director John Woo made a decision during the making of the film that he would not speaking English, which made it difficult to work out and nail scenes and during this time she said that Tom was not satisfied with her performance and decided to make them switch roles so that he could act out what he wanted from her performance3 in front of her. And as she recalls it all she shared that it was the most unhelpful thing he could do and it pushed her further into a place of terror and insecurity. Though, later Newton noticed that his behaviour was purely born from stress.

This isn’t just a case with Thandie Newton there would be many artist how would have faced such things but never came out in open and with such brutality of honesty.
