Lady Antebellum Sues the Singer Lady A Over a Name

We all have once in our life time said what’s in a name? or who cares what your name is, but guess what folks everyone cares about the name when fame and popularity is involved and when it comes to Hollywood industry or the Music industry, people are ready to sue each other for the name much less fight for it.

The US country Band Lady A formerly known as Lady Antebellum is suing the Singer Lady A over the use of the name.

Last month when the trio Lady Antebellum decided to change their name to Lady A because of its reference to the Civil War and slavery out of respect to the black people, it credited widespread protest on the  brutality of the police on Black people and for revealing the blind spots that they didn’t knew ever existed.

But not even a day later there was one another blind spot to which the trio came across was Singer Lady A, Anita white a Blues singer and black women who had been using the stage name Lady A.

In the weeks following after that they came with an apparent give and take relationship and celebrated on social media by both side.

Now, the Platinum- selling Nashville group has filed a lawsuit to ask the court to affirm “a trademark we have held for many years.”

The trio included the musicians Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood law suit says that they began using the nickname “Lady A” not too long after they formed in 2006. They claimed that they are not aiming to have White change her moniker, but they are seeking to protect themselves from further litigations. The law suit also revealed that the group had applied to register as “Lady A” in 2010 for the use in music, videos, live performance and they also said that at that time no opposition were filed by any person or entity including White.

The trio said “We are sad to share that our sincere hope to join together with Anita White in unity and common purpose has ended,” they added that they had all “Shared our stories, listened to each other, prayed and spent hours on the phone and text writing a song about this experience together.”

As the trio continued they said, “We hope Anita and the advisers she is listening to will change their minds about their approach,” they conclude with the statement, “we can do so much more together than in this dispute.”

Though Anita White did not make any response first but later told the Billboard that she and the Band were making progress and even shared a picture of all of them doing a video call. But not even a day later she told the Newsday that she did not trusted the band and that their Band camp was trying to erase her.

After hearing about Antebellum’s decision to change its name, Anita White told the Rolling Stone that, “they’re just using the name because of Black Lives Matter incident that, for then, is just a moment in time.” She added that “If it mattered, it would have mattered to them before. It should have taken George Floyd to die for them to realize their name had a slave reference to it.”
