Joel Schumacher, Director of the films “Batman Forever”& “The Lost Boys” died at the age of 88

Joel T. Schumacher the American filmmaker who directed the iconic hit movies “The Batman film series”, “St. Elmo’s Fire”, “The Lost Boys” died at the age of 80. According to the resources and from the confirmation of Schumacher’s publicists Joe4l had been ill with cancer for more than a year and on Monday after a yearlong battle with the cancer he passed away leaving his legacy of iconic movies behind. 

Joel Schumacher was an eclectic director who rose to prominence after his three hit films “St. Elmo’s Fire” from the 1985, “The Lost Boys” from the 1987 and “flat liners” from the 1990’s.

Schumacher as Born in New York, he studied at “Parsons the New School for Design” before he earned his degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. As he realized his love for filmmaking, he moved to Los Angeles and began his media work as a costume designer. His first screenplay was for the musical drama Sparkle in 1976.

Joel Schumacher has always been fairly open gay throughout the directing career. Schumacher even claims that he had sex with up 20,000 men in his course of life.

Schumacher was a very versatile and marvellous director whose films ranged from the teen Vampire tale “The Lost Boys” to the melodrama of Julia Roberts “Dying Young” to Dark satire “Falling Down” and to the thriller adapted movies from the novels of John Grisham “The Client” and “A Time to kill”.

With many friends and co-stars coming forward to express their sorrow and grief, The Lost Boys co-star Kiefer Sultherland wrote that Schumacher “joy, spirit and talent live on in my heart and memory for the rest of my life”.

8mm star Nicholas Cage tweeted “I am very upset about Joel’s passing – he was a great artists and a true friend… I will miss him”.

Rossum, the star of the musical “The Phantom of the Opera” which was directed by Schumacher also tweeted, “I am in tears learning of Joel Schumacher’s passing. He was a force. He was one of a kind, Creative, Passionate. He played a huge part in the shaping of my life. I don’t have the right words now.”

The writer Beau Willimon with whom Joel Schumacher collaborated for “The Parisian Woman” also tweeted, “I was lucky enough to work with Joel Schumacher. Smart, funny, talented. A true iconoclast. And he could hold court and tell a story like no other. RIP Joel”.

Camerimage, the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography awarded Schumacher a special award in 2010. In 2011 he received the Distinguished Collaborator Award at the Costume Designer Guild Award.

The Hollywood lost another great gem and talent from their industry after the lost Ian Holm.
