Actors who have rocked the role of Iconic character “James Bond”

The iconic fictional character created by the British journalist and novelist Ian Fleming in the 1952 “Commander James Bond” code name 007 is still stealing and racing through our hearts with each new movie in the series.

The character is a “Secret Intelligence Service Agent” residing in London yet active internationally. With the code number 007 he has done many missions.

The character id define as a tall, athletic, handsome secret agent in his mostly thirties or forties. He is the most incredible marksman ever and skilled in unarmed combat; with his several vices of drinking, smoking, gambling and womanising.     

With never regretting killing anyone and being ruthless as ever, this character would kill anyone but only when its order or while under self-defence, or when it came to revenge.

This incredible character is played by 7 actors over the years from 1962 to present and has in total of 27 movies.

Sean Connery

Sean Connery was the very first actor to portray James Bond in the movie “Dr.No” in the year 1962. At that time he was an amateur bodybuilder who had happened to come under the radar   of the James Bond productions. At first he met with the disapproval of Fleming but later Sean Connery did the first 5 movies in the James Bond franchise.

The actual interpretation of the character was considerably different from what was portrayed. Connery was much more unrestrained and cold-blooded than the actual version.

David Niven

David Niven was only seen in one of the movie from the James Franchise in the year 1967. He was the ideal choice of Fleming as he fitted the description of Fleming’s character. He played or can say portrayed James Bond in the film “Casino Royale”.

 According to Barnes and Hearn the approach taken by Niven in portraying James Bond was “perfectly fair interpretation”. But many saw and considered that he didn’t seem like a killer.  

George Lazenby

George Lazenby was the third major actor to play the role of James Bond. He was the youngest actor to play James Bond at the age of 29. He did the film “His Majesty’s Secret Service” in the year 1967. He came in the radar after a TV commercial of Fry’s Chocolate Cream.

Roger Moore

After being considered for many James Bond movies, Roger Moore was finally cast in the movie “Live and Let die”. The screenwriter Tom Mankiewicz adjusted the screenplay around Moore who was trying to avoid imitating Connery while portraying James Bond.

The film writer Andrew Spicer considered him as the most elegant and mannered James Bond with the style of an English debonair country gentleman.  Roger Moore did 6 movies in the James Bond Franchise.   

Timothy Dalton

Timothy Dalton was among the other actors who played James Bond. Timothy Dalton was one of the most serious one, dark, cold, stern, ruthless, and focused as a killer with very little time to have fun. He portrayed the Bond in a much Darker version, on that was less of a womanizer, tougher, darker and more ruthless much like the dark version of the Fleming wrote about.

Timothy Dalton did two movies as James Bond “The Living Daylights” in the year 1987 and “The Living Daylights” in the year 1989.

Pierce Brosnan

After the retirement of Timothy Dalton from James Bond Franchise the producers turned to Pierce Brosnan to portray James Bond.

He was made an offer of three James Bond Films. His first film in the James Bond franchise was “GoldenEye” in the year 1995. The display of coolness, elegance and grace made him more of an international playboy if not an assassin.

Daniel Craig

He is the 7^th actor to play the role of James Bond in the James Bond franchise. His first film in the James Bond Franchise was “Casino Royale” in the year 2006, an adaptation of Ian Fleming’s novel and a reboot of Eon Series. Since 2006 to till date Daniel Craig is the actor portraying the character of James Bond. Craig is the first actor who has nailed the character of James Bond as the Secret Intelligence Service Agent, code number 007. He portrayed the exact amount of darkness, ruthlessness, cold heartedness and a professional killing machine just as Ian Fleming had interpreted in his novels
