Rajkumar Rao’s and Bhumi pednekar’s Badhai do has hit the movie theatres. the movie saw slow beginning at the theatres. As it had managed to earn only 1.65 cr in its first week.

For the movie to survive it has to keep its numbers high. The foot fall in the theatres is quiet low owing to covid. The other factors which kept the audience to the theatres low was the issue around which movie revolves. the movie could not reach its targeted audience.

Accordingly, movie should be released on the OTT platforms rather than on the theatres a. but the makers rather released on the theatres. This had great impact on its opening. Furthermore, movie had to compete with the much-awaited movies like gehraiyan on the OTT platform.

The movie explores the LGBTQ issues. As many directors are taking this issue constantly it has helped in breaking the conservationist attitude of Indian audience.

The movie badhai do revolves around male protagonist raj Kumar Rao and female protagonist Bhumi pednekar. Rajkumar Rao is playing the role of a gay cop shardul thakur and Bhumi pednekar plays the role of lesbian physical education teacher.

The writers and director establish the character and their background quite soon without beating around the bush. The movie starts with family discussing the marriage of their respective kids. But both the families are oblivious of the fact that their children are not straight.

First half deals with how these two people get married and deals with their personal lives and life with each other. First half of the movie is rather slow and revolves around their honeymoon and romance.

But thankfully, the movie picks up the pace in the second half. Furthermore, the entry of sheeba chaddha brings the air of lightness with comedy.

Audience surely enjoys her screen presence with her comic style and puns. The movie Badhai do also attacks on moral policing and body shaming in sarcasm.

The supporting cast also has done a beautiful job here with amazing comic timing.

All said, the director Harshvardhan Kulkarni tries to start a conversation on LGBTQ community in tier 2 and 3 cities. The movie understands that acceptance of LGBTQ in the modern society does not come easy. And this idea is well knitted in the movie.

In an interview, Rajkumar Rao revealed the director Harshvardhan has actually researched a lot in the script. Harsh has made many people from the community read the script. He did this to avoid any discrepancies in the script. As the makers did not want to hurt any one’s sentiments.

The movie has to pick the pace if it wants to survive with the competition. But all said we suggest audience to go and watch the movie to explore the nuances of this issue.
