Raj Kapoor’s And Dilip Sahab’s Houses on Market for 200 and 25 Crores

The partition of India and Pakistan was a horrible experience for people on both sides. It meant that some of us had to leave everything that we possessed behind the lines to start a life in a place that was completely unknown. Our film stars were also victims of this decision. Yes! Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar had to leave their ancestral houses, too!

Dilip Sahab’s ancestral house is almost a century old in the locality of Qissa Khwani Bazaar in Pakistan; the house is declared to be a national heritage by the government. Whereas Raj Kapoor’s house, which was probably built in 1922, is in the very same locality and is infamously known as Kapoor Haweli.

Haji Lal Muhammad who is currently the owner is not happy with certain decisions and deals offered to him by the government for his houses.

The government wants to take the ownership of the building and is offering an amount of 2 Crores. They wish to transform these houses into museums in the honour of the two great legends. The Communication and Works Department has evaluated the houses and announced that Raj Kapoor’s house is valued at 1,50,00,000 whereas Dilip Kumar’s house is worth 80,56,000, in Pakistani rupees.

This offer is not settling down the owners’ throats. On one hand, the owner of Dilip Sahab is asking for 25 Crore and Raj Kapoor Sahab’s house owner is seeking 200 Crore. 

The owner of Dilip Sahab’s house feels that it is highly unfair as he bought the house sixteen years back for 51 Lacs with all legality sorted and the government is only giving them a profit of 29 lacs after almost two decades. 

Both the owners have set their minds that they are not going to sell their houses for anything less than the set amount.
