“If we admit that human life can be ruled by reason, then all possibility of life is destroyed.” ― Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild

INTO THE WILD
“I now walk into the wild.”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

“So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality, nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty.”

― Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild

A mesmerising movie with a very definition of serenity. It emphasises on nature, wilderness, peace and tranquility only to make you understand in the end that “real happiness is only when shared”.
One of my all-time favorite films. A guy gives up the rat race to live out the rest of his life in the stunning wilderness. Forming beautiful friendships along the way with people he meets. Even giving up the chance of love at one point. It makes me cry every time I see it. He is so happy interacting with others yet seemingly wants to be alone. Ultimately the realization hits and he tries to return to his friends but nature turns out to be dangerous as well as beautiful. A true masterpiece.

Sean Penn delivers again behind the lens. This is an insightful film adapted not translated from the novel of the same title which is based on true events. As an attempt to make people think about the ‘why’ of their being here, and as a pointer to what one should and should not do it is a good one !.The entire production is outstanding. At times it is visually stunning. The soundtrack is sensational by vedder. The casting is spot on. Hirsch and Holbrook in particular are superb. Malone’s narrative is emotive and poetic. The plot revolves around a young man Christopher McCandless, a recent top graduate from Emory University. Instead of pursuing a prestigious career being forced upon him by his overbearing parents, he chooses a different path. Christopher donates his entire life savings to charity, rids himself of all possessions and hits the road on a journey of self discovery with the ultimate goal of reaching the Alaskan wilderness. It is a remarkable achievement and one of the very best films in it’s genre. “Happiness is only real when shared”. This flick is intergalactic cool.

So after this pandemic ends .. pack your bags and go out to reach that wilderness . One should not take a lifetime to realise that happiness is not in material world.. happiness is within us and is always around us.

And till then!! Go to Netflix and watch it ASAP.

Thanks for Reading.
