Mexican and American film actress and producer Salma Hayek expressed her emotional struggle during her second movie in 1995 film ‘Desperado’.
She started her career in Mexico starring TV show ‘Teresa’ (1989) and the movie ‘Mi Vida Loca’ (My crazy life) (1993). During this movie, she was noticed by Director Robert Rodriguez and he cast her in ‘Desperado’ (1995).
Desperado heightens her stardom in Hollywood but also gave her some experience that she can’t forget till now.
As a guest on Dax Shepard and Monica Padman’s Podcast ‘Armchair Expert’ she expressed her emotional dilemma during shooting a love-making scene with her costar Antonio Banderas in ‘Desperado’.
Salma gets the role of a bookstore owner named Carolina. she signed for the movie. Initially, there was no sex scene in the script but later it was demanded by the studio to see the chemistry of both actors.
She said “ I had a really tough time with that scene”, “I didn’t know how I would perform this sequence because it was my first time with these kinds of scenes”.
Hayek agreed to do this when they shot this sequence in a closed set with only her, Banderas, Rodriguez, and producer Elizabeth Avellan.
Hayek said, “ I started weeping When we were filming that specific scene. I know it is just shooting but I was afraid of Antonio because he is a gentleman, a very nice guy and we are close friends but still he was very free that time and it scared me as it looks nothing for him”.
According to Hayek, she was so embarrassed for crying on set and Banderas told her that he felt terrible by her reaction. She added Rodriguez, Banderas and Avellan were so amazing and try to make a comfort zone for me.
“Director Robert Rodriguez never pressurizes me for the shot,” Hayek said. She kept thinking about her father and brother at that time because she wanted to make them proud of her that’s why those circumstances made her very nervous and uncomfortable.
When Hayek and her family saw the film together, She said “ I escorted them out of the theater during that scene and returned with them when it ends”.
