There are many things constant in our life and one of them is change. Just like time, human behaviour, and situations, fashion is also one of those things that change after a period, and when it comes to the women’s fashion world change is bound to happen. What we do, think, see and read everything is an observed indication or gesture of reality and the same is in the case of fashion, fashion can be called an imitation of reality. Fashion is one kind of representation of human community, mood of nature and scenarios which may have risen up from political, economical or social progressive value.

1920’s-1929’s

The era from 20s to 29s was largely known as the “Jazz Age”. This was an era of “floppers”, skirts and bob hairs. The newly found enthusiasm for life was celebrated with gold and glitters, feather boas and sequins, flapper dresses, headbands. The love for neck scarves, huge hats, bows began. The Jazz culture was in everything be it music, fashion, drinks, lifestyle and all of the sudden the world was looking at the rock culture.

1930s-1939s

In the 30s the sharp glittery outfits were transitioned to elegant women outfits with tight dresses, costumes and blouses, long and wide trousers which were later known as Cult Marlene Trousers, the skirts in 30’s were more A – line and fit. Frome the loud coloured sense it toned to more of solids and checks. The way of wearing jazz skirts changed completely. The bob hairstyle from 20’s was now more civil hairstyle with all hairs tied at the back in a low bun. The love for neck scarves and bows was still witnessed. Bows were used in belts or as designs.

1940s-1949s

The era of 40s was distinguished into two different halves – the per-war and the post war era. The 40’s brought out the patriotism with knee length A-line dresses with puffed shoulders in patriotic colours. The hourglass shape was in trend in the 40’s, even if the women didn’t naturally had an hourglass figure the cloths were designed in a way that could help her achieve that look. Now the dresses were played with buttons and had taste of lace and floral too in them. The Victoria suits were in fashion tailored skirts and jackets overall work wear. The trend of low ponytails and ribbons or can say trend of shoulder length hairs was on the play. The fashion of gloves and belts too made a comeback and then glared skirts and distinctive blouses too.

1950-1959

1950,s was the time of “Happy Days”. In 50’s the fashion world of women witnessed the initiation of the removal of sleeves in total. The woman’s started wearing sleeves boluses or use to wear an extra blouse under the sleeveless blouse. Later then the sleeveless blouses were refined to mini sleeves or with small puffed sleeves. The natural waistline, billowy skirts were in trend. Dresses had long, wide collars and V-necks. The long skim look made a comeback with long A-line skirts or dresses. There was another initiation done in this era, hot pants were introduced.

1960-1969

1960’s was a whole new air in itself, the women fashion world took a sharp turn in this era, the bell bottom and tucked in shirt came in to play. This era was the era of the youth. The flappers and bright and glittery colours were back. The short, shapeless shift dresses in bright colours and psychedelic swirls became a staple for the Mod look. The causal outfit was made of button – down shirts, turtlenecks and chunky knit sweaters. Mini -skirts or pencil skirts made their way to the women’s fashion world. The hair styles didn’t stop at the shoulder length now it as the trend of long straight hairs. Jax pants, stirrup pants were seen in this era, pants dominated this era to max.

1970-1979

The 1970’s had the same air of rebel as the 1960’s had. This era was known for the liberty of women. The 70’s fashion was a mish and mash, a bit of everything but at last the comfort and casualness won the battle. The fashion of this era was closely tied to pop culture, disco and hard rock, while the flapper were reviving the wardrobes was still dominated by bell-bottoms , midis and maxi dresses. Pant suits with silk blouses and blazers were getting worn to the offices. Denim was almost everywhere pants, jumpsuits, dresses, skirts or jackets. Peasants blouses, tunic tops and band shirts were seen, long vest were layered over tops and pants. Caftan dresses were worn with high heel sandals.

1980-1989

1980’s was the era of bold style, bold and bright colours. Flat skirts and fine crocheted were overruled by shoulders pads, carrot pants, perms and neon coloured XL sweaters with leggings, puffed sleeves. Cropped tops made their way to the women wardrobes for the first time. The skirt length began to decrease and became tighter. The women’s fashion world was now obsessed with bigger and longer hairs. The fashion I 80’s was bold and utterly glamorous.

1990-1999

The 1990’s was the era when the women’s fashion world was in its best stage. Black leggings with oversized sweaters, flannel skirts, sweatpants, skirts were mostly ruled. Colours were more solid and simple thought neon colour stayed popular. 90’s was full with crop tops, animal, prints, chokers, floral dresses.  

2000s-2009

2000s had the similar style as 90’s. The colour palette was filled with shiny black and metallic colours. Meshed or handkerchief tops, box- pleated or leather skirts, shiny pants were seen. Denim was everywhere and in everything. Crop tops, hoodies, low – rise flared jeans, cargo pants, jean skirts, off shoulder tops were common in the women’s wardrobes and in some way ruled the 2000’s.

2010- present day

All the best trends of 90’s and 2000’s are in the current fashion world of women be that crop tops, bell- bottom, animal prints, ripped jeans or that A-line knee length dress almost everything.
