Rating : 3/5
Making a movie whose original has already done marvels and gained a lot of fans is difficult. It is difficult to convince people the authenticity of the movie. And Laal singh chaddha falls in the same line. Laal singh chadda is an adaptation of forest grump. Forest Grumpp came out in 1994, a comedy drama which turned out to be an epic movie. The fan following of the original is still strong. Further, Given the acting of tom hanks and direction of Robert zemeckis. The movie runs through different social and political backdrops just like the original. The original shows how America goes through the political turmoil of the 1960’s and 1970’s. Also, Laal sign chaddha similarly shows how the protagonist goes through different events. It brought the events like emergency, sikh riots and such others to the forefront.
So, Laal singh chaddha revolves around our male protagonist and her mother (mona singh)
The actor advait chaitan and the writer Atul kulkarni made sure that the screenplay is according to the Indian audience. Also, The movie did some changes from the original. Like gol gappas takes the place of the chocolates.
The only drawback we found was there were ceratinly scenes which were directly picked up from the original movie. Had there been little changes in that field it would have been better to watch.
The first half of the movie is beautiful with crisp writing and on point acting. Amir khan always shines in his character. Kareena Kapoor really stood out in her character Rupa Dsouza. Further, We can say without doubt that she is phenomenal in every frame. Naga chaitanya as a soldier who wants to make best and briefs is apt. He brings humor to the frame. It is only the second half of the movie where things start stretching. And I feel the editor could have shortened it a bit.
When it comes to music, it does justice to the emotions and backdrop of the movie. And the music justifies every event. Pritam’s music falls short.
Shahrukh Khan plays a cameo in the movie. And this becomes the wow factor of the movie.
Certainly, the costumes has done justice to the movie by setting narrative right. There will be a constant comparison of the movie to the original. But Amir Khan and his entire team has stood well to the test of time. The movie has its own flaws but it comes with a fresh take on the original. So, The movie leaves a great message on the minds of the audience.
